Global matters
So I was supposed to be in London the week of the summer bombings but…
Now I get word of bombings in New Delhi (we’re going back in January.)
One of these days - it’s gonna hit SF. I can just feel it.
This global thing is a two way sword. Sure we get lots of new consumers buying McDonalds and cheap t-shirts, but we also have a lot of dis-enfranchised people, serious hate for the US and too much money being made by rich people.
Gaurav Bhatnagar’s blog is a year old, it’s Diwali over there now and my daughter Mimi is wearing her Indian dress today - as she just loves it. Mimi especially loves the notion of going over to India to see Gaurav and Ashish again - and dancing ‘Indian dancing’ and wearing all sorts of pretty, colorful clothing.
Its all a fantasy for her - and it is for me too. I never imagined that my visions would happen - so clearly, exactly the way I imagined it. And it’s because of Tekriti and Gaurav and Ashish - that it’s happening! Of course I got the timing wrong - but that’s the curse of the visionary - timing.
Ignoring those details - watching the world embrace ’structured blogging’ and ‘digital lifestyle aggreation’ - will be the dream come true that gets me up in the morning.
Now the triangulation begins.
Hollywood connects into Silicon Valley at the moment when Telcos and consumer electronics companies discover outsourcing, Moore’s Law and Best But. Open this will drive Open that - and no one will dare embrace patents or proprietary anything, except for those mating dinosaurs who won’t notice. Metcalfe’s Law meets Canter’s Law in the valley of a shrug.
No longer will people doubt me.
They’ll just wonder “when”.
