Went shopping today in Old Dehli
We went shopping today and my hosts Gaurav, Ashish and Manish told me they hadn’t spent as much time in Delhi since they came back from the states - working for Microsoft.
So I didn’t feel so guilty having them as my tour guides. We bought some raw silk yesterday and you all will be seeing me wear these custom Indian Silk shirts (that are being made for me) over the next few years.
Turns out the market we went to today - was right next to the Red Fort - this magnificant walled city, about the size of the Roman Forum. In other words 10 football fields.
This place - the Red Fort is where the Moghul’s lived. They ruled over Indian with an iron fist and defended their prize city from behind it’s walls.
Gaurav taught me something today from a period of time when Indian history connected itelf with it’s Asian roots. Turns out one of Tamerlane’s sons was the first Moghul.
Wow! That blew my mind - connecting the last gasp of Eastern empire building, with the arrival of a whole new breed of people to India.
Of course - they were the white guys from up north.
They had popcorn at the market.
And plenty of selection.
And loads of content - too.
And these great watches.
