Did I ever tell yah the story of sitting next to Dave Winer and watching him explain the Frontier object database to me?

All sorts of bells started going off in my head as Dave showed how a CMS, coupled to a scripting langauge could spit out HTML pages. I pointed to the exact point where the data was coupled with HTML tables and I said: “stop there and branch to something cooler.”

Well that something cooler is now called Laszlo.

Then there was the time that I overheard Dave talking to Netscape about his ‘Scripting News format’.

“Oh yah, I got that all figured out - sure let’s marry it to - what do you call it - sure RSS - yah and that’ll be cool.”

Any other history of RSS are revisionist liars.

I was there.

So for me to say that Dave Wienr has returned to the Bay Area is major news. Dave is going to help us extend and move these standards forward.

I am going to act like a ‘protector of the realm’ and make sure that everything is kept civil. Dave commented to me that T B-L has these young people who go around and attack anybody who attacks Tim (no - not THAT Tim, the other Tim.)

Anyway - better watch out what you say about my old freind Dave. He may be crazy - but so am I.

Us crazy old folks love to hang together.

But we ship code. We don’t sit around and talk about it. And it’s the code that matters. And delivering compelling experiences to our end-users.

Enough said - welcome back Dave.
