The GoingOn Network
It’s official - I can now start talking about the world’s first true DLA. I say true - not because 1UP.com wasn’t coolio or that Tribe.net doesn’t have some cutting edge features - but none of them let me have a free hand in designing what I wanted to design.
This one - the GoingOn Network - did.
This one is exactly what I want my ideal system to be - circa summer 2005. Every bell, whistle, coolio feature and advanced notion is included in this one.
To summarize:
Meta-network (join a network or create your own hosted network)
- they’re all inter-connected together
- you can be a member of more than one
- and network operators split the revenues from ads and web servicesMicro-content publishing and support for ALL standards (including microformats)
- exactly as I always dreamed of itPeople subscribing and access control by the individual
- the notion of a compound feed is bornSupport for all major Identity systems (Sxip, XRI/XDI, OpenID and the Microsoft Meta Identity standard)
- I sure hope Kaliya, Dick, Kim and Doc - are happyCustomizable environment via Gutter blocks and access control
- you get full control over your data
- you get to decide who sees what
- customizable menus, network and skinsTemplated Home page system
- we’re starting with a publishing system
- and a SuperBlogger system
- but more, like an entire Conference system - is coming
I hope that all the people out there - who actually understand what it is I’m talking about - are as excited as me.
Now any of you can come to this Meta-Network, get your own Network and be your own boss. Configure it the way you want it to work, focus on what you wanna focus on, choose how to make money and go for it. All made possible with Drupal - I may add!
DLAs are finally born!

I actually loose sleep at night thinking about news like Goingon and other sites getting purchased…
This space keeps getting hotter and hotter. I bite my lip and hit my forehead…come on, come on! We gotta get this going!

Huh… only just now discovering that GoingOn exists, a full week after someone started talking about it… man, I’m getting slow.
It looks like what you’re doing is definately on the right track, if not almost perfect. (Well, I’m not keen on your site design, but otherwise…) Which I admit is almost disappointing, because I’ve been working on writing my own DLA of sorts using Ruby on Rails. Amusingly, I was planning on calling it a “Digital Identity Aggregator.” Close enough.
Actually, I finished already, then scrapped it and rewrote it from scratch. And… now I’m rewriting it again.
Anyways, I’m definately going to have to make sure to keep tabs on you guys, and keep up the good work!

Mark, very interested in speaking with you more about the GoingOn Network. Love what you’re doing. I’m the president of a company that is currently developing an interactive, digital media distribution system. We are very interested in working with you and the entire Identity 2.0 community to ensure that our system is designed from the ground up to work on various platforms, in various environments, for various uses.
Look forward to hearing from you.
