building the open web one bit at a time

A List of links from the Great North

After taking the BC Ferry (a Marqui client BTW) up to Sechelt - I’m finally finding time to hang with the famly and blog (well not necessarily at the same time - but Mimi is painting right now and Lucy is playing with Sasha the dog) - so I get to cull through 1,000’s of posts for coolio stuff to blog about.

But how the hell will I ever get to all these links - and still play human?

A List of Links!

Perhaps one day - blogrolls or Fav Lists or Wish Lists (or Wists) will become formal micro-content, but until then - here goes:

It’s great to see Google getting into the Review search and aggregation business. As I sit here today - I’m telling yah we’re gonna all be sharing our reviews - real soon now. And we won’t HAVE to be supporting hReviews - though it certainly helps! It’s just that I don’t see a world of everything HAVING to be in a page and no centralized servers. For instance - there are rdf based Reviews happening - as well.

I agree with Stowe - the BEST possible SWAG there is a USB memory stick.

How fast time flys by. A couple of months ago - we were all jazzed about ‘Structured Blogging’. So I met with Bob Wyman a couple of times and our programmers sent him a list of issues to grapple with. You see Bob’s approach to storing everything in the RSS comment field is a bit - quirky. Anyway - no repsonse from Bob and now we’re moving on.

More and more people are starting to use Drupal. There will even be a mini-DrupalCon up at OSCON Aug. 1-5. But Doc has a simple request: “Could you PLEASE not call Drupal a Blog site, claim that it has a blog tool and that you blog with it. Using the same term for three different things is really confusing to normal people.”

Thomas Vanderwal is rapping out his ‘personal info cloud’ notions. Here’s a followup. I dig this guy - he’s really fucking smart and his notions jibe 1,000,000,000,000 with mine. We really need to figure out how we can work together.

It’s about the Music - stupid. MSpace is running circles around the entire social networking world - showing simply that by focusing on things people care about - namely music - they can create a compelling experience. 14M think so and they almost all return - everyday. Now we just gotta convince these guys to ‘open up’ and mesh in with the rest of us. Or else we’ll just have to scrape um.

I met Joe Reger at Syndicate. He’s one smart cookie as well. His tool is already doing micro-content publishing and he’s flowing through dyamic data. Here’s a report on what Joe’s been up to - from Arnaud Leene.

Stewart Alsop has his own fund now. Hmmmmm - I wonder if he’ll change his hairstyle - again. Thanks PK for the link.

Om discovers XSPF. It’s nice to see Om - focusing on techy issues, instead of running around chasing down the next exclusive merger scoop.

Om points out (via Nick Aster) what many of us have discovered - Skype ain’t too solid when it comes to conference calls.

More from Arnaud - support for hReviews is growing.
