The elite insider’s blogging scene

For those of us who have been paying attention - Joi Ito hasn’t attended one of the ‘mainstream’ power elite A-list blogger thingies in over a year and a half. Neither SuperNova, Etech, Web 2.0, Always On Innovation, BloggerCon, BBS, DIDW, PC Forum, SXSW, blah blah blah - none of them have nee graced with Joi’s presence.

Instead Joi has been bopping around the world, making sure that his investment - SixApart - is the leading blogging platform. Deals with NTT, Fujitsu and Nokia can be credited to Joi - as well as all sorts of “world” forums, CC and Technorati board meetings, Ars Electronica contests - the lists go on and on. He can now add MusicBrainz board meetings as well.

But Joi decided he didn’t need to bless with his presence - any of the ‘normal’ A-list events.

Until now.

I wish I were a fly on the wall watching the homage paid to Joi and the elite elitist bogging scene going on in Paris. Talk about virtual ring kissing - these folks flew all the way to Paris - just to talk about “vat ist blugging”. And kiss Joi’s ring - in person.

New pope! Hah! Joi is the real Pope!

I gotta say I sure am glad I’m not there. Not becuase I don’t love Paris, Loic, any of those peeps or Joi.

But because I don’t wanna be associated with some insider’s game, clique, blogging scene. And besides - I wasn’t invited anyway.

That’s one more thing I got in common with Dave Winer.
:-)
And proud of it.
:-)
And BTW since we’re on the subject of elitist, insider games and politics - YES - I am into tags - but NO I won’t put a Tehcnorati ad on each and every one of my blog posts - as opposed to some other “former MSNBC bloggers” out there.

OH - BTW - Loic works for Joi and Barak. Barak is also coming to the Loic show - which I believe will be the FIRST time Barak has shown his face - since the performance at Berkeley last summer when Mena and Ben started quipping at each other - on stage. That was a scene to see.

At least Paolo gets to see all those peeps. He doesn’t get around very often - esepcially since BlogTalk got cancelled.

    marc,

i mentioned many times that i wished you were there.

it actually was a good event. though, it was more a ’state of the industry’ rather than a ‘let’s bang our heads together and build some more stuff’. nonetheless, something like this was ugently needed here in the old world.

and i would say that everyone there was from the top-level service area, no one from the plumbing and construction level - such as you or dave w - y’know, the kinds of folks working on identity, rss, atom, metadata, etc. the folks at this event were the ones who say (or don’t say?) ‘thanks for this tool, now let me run with it’.

my suggestion to loïc is that we run this again in about 18 months and actually come out with something concrete, something we can say is an outcome, rather than just sharing info. also, my suggestion is that we get more builders out here, since the builders need to have a conversation with the service folks and vice versa.

    what do you think?

    tchau,

    charlie

ps ‘ring kissing’ - you funny man
