Skyping through Europe

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

Here I am - getting work done - at Benchmark’s office in London.
I’ve been heavily getting into Skype - sometimes using it 3-5 times a day. The echo/delays to India are pretty bad - but most of the time Skype sounds better than the normal phone system.
But yah gotta get the right gear. […]

The propagation delay of launching new efforts

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

JD Lasica and myself started launching ourmedia.org back in January - as were closing in on the final specs, the code was up and running and content was being feed into the engine.
There’s an IT Conversation in the can and literally dozens of inetrviews and articles waiting to happen - as soon as it’s ready.
But […]

Aesthetic blogging

Saturday, February 26th, 2005

There is nothing more aesthetic then recapping a blogging conference and your travels while sitting in an Amsterdam hash bar. It is my favorite - Grey Area. Here’s Willy Nelson there.
I’m sitting at the same table I sat with Dave Winer - 10 years ago.
Anyway Ted Leng has a great report of Northern […]

Please label publicly and visible

Saturday, February 26th, 2005

As money seeps into the blogosphere I think it’s important to remind bloggers to ALWAYS clearly post if you are taking money for any or all of your posts.
Dan Gillmor points this out.
We do that as part of the Marqui blogger’s program.
Everyone should - who does take money.

The relationship of Odeo to Oreos

Friday, February 25th, 2005

Noah Glass used to live at my house - so I guess I get to call him my ex-roomate. I can’t really say that Noah likes Oreo cookies, and he’s definitely not a black man acting like a white man.
But He’s now Ev Williams partner.
Congrats to Noah. And Ev too.
Here’s Noah with our […]

I finally got to meet Suw Charman at Northern Voice. She’s got an excellent recap of the conference.
I had a really good time in Vancouver. My family came with me.

Kottke goes pro

Thursday, February 24th, 2005

Jason Kottke has decided to work full-time on his blog.
I’m excited about that.
I’m really hoping that he breaks out his different kinds of micro-content and helps us establish shared, open servers of:
- EVENTS
- REVIEWS
- LISTS
- TOPICS
- MEDIA
Kottke has the best micro-content blog around IMHO.
So it’s gonna be REAL interesting to see what Jason does.

DrupalCon

Thursday, February 24th, 2005

I’m in Antwerp now for DrupalCon.
Drupal is what we’re using to build ourmedia.org - so I’ve become involved in the community and issues revolving around Drupal.
Neil Drumm is here form CivicSpace Labs - as well as Boris Mann of Bryght.
ourmedia.org went live today - kind of. But with a bunch of broken links - […]

Hunter S. Thompson R.I.P.

Monday, February 21st, 2005

All bloggers owe their heritage to the original Gonzo.
There’s a raging controversy on the pho list this morning.
Which is the correct quote?:
“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.
There’s also a negative side.”
or was it:
“The TV […]

We’r'e only in it for the money! by Jon Lebkowsky

Sunday, February 20th, 2005

Here’s Jon Lebkowsky…..
Should bloggers take money for writing about sponsored products? JD Lasica explores the question in a very good article for the USC Annenberg Online Journalism Review. Lasica focuses on the controversial Marqui Payblogger program that’s been sponsoring Weblogsky since December. Every week, I post something about Marqui, often based on content that Marqui […]
