like microsoft et.... so ten dollar donation 
does not actually pay for the cost space,, it just helps.

A donation is nice because we set up the chairs 
video et... and clean up afterwards....

It is not really wierd it is just polite.

I host a user group meeting for computer graphics once a month at dimension7. It takes an hour to set up  video set up et and a few minutes to clean up. 
While usually 30 people and we leave a donation jar we usually end up with 15 to 20 dollars.
So I basically pay money to have people come.
That gets old after a while... no?
