Web APIs

Lucas has a good point:

Given that there are a bunch of web applications inspired by blogging, like Flickr, del.icio.us, and Webjay, and that each of these apps has a developer API, why isn’t the API Atom? Why are all these APIs different?

Where I’m going with this is the need for common APIs for web applications, which have the compelling benefit that a new web app is more likely to find developers if the API is familiar.

If we get some funding for ‘open source infrastrcuture’ it’s folks like Lucas that will get paid to build these visions.
