Insights into the mind of a Microsoft blogger
Multiple replies to Scoble….
My twin sons are being Bar Mitzvahed so I can’t go to BloggerCon. Thank god. I might have been forced to carry a picket sign “No More Blogging Conventions”. I’m confidant Doc will speak for me. You can all me a liar - but god forbid if this ‘paying to blog’ experiment works out. Jon Lebkowsky called it a grand ’social experiment’. I agree - that’s one of the reasons I’m doing it (besides getting paid cold hard cash….) I hope Scoble sees my REButt.
It seems like MSN is getting it’s act together. I started to see evidence of this earlier this year. Then I met a MSN architect guy at Web 2.0 who was actually really smart and on top of it. Now we hear that Dare Obasanjo has joined MSN. hmmmmm. Microsoft grokking DLAs - with Longhorn. hmmmmm. Time to jump out further ahead to activity based computing. I always knew DLAs would take teh next 5 years to evolve - but are we gonna cut right to activities - now?
Channel 9 goes International. Oh goodey. It’s always amusing to watch some U.S. company admit that they’re not the only people on this planet. It’s sort of like Bush saying “I’m the best candidate to keep America safe?” My answer - “why the fuck are we unsafe in teh first place - you asshole?” It Amercians didn’t have their heads (and their asses) in the sand - we wouldn’t be in this predicament now! And that certainly goes for technology companys as well. Hollywood has at least seen which side the butter is on. Much of today’s content is desigend to work overseas.
And if you need any evidence of a blogger speaking his mind and getting away with it - there’s Scoble’s Marketing slime and other topics on the Winer podcast. Scoble is my inspiration for our “blogging for dollars” campaign. Robert speaks his mind and keeps his job. It’s the idiots at Friendster who don’t grok this. Having a happy employee - is the best PR any company can buy. I respect Microsoft more for letting Scoble be Scoble and I’ve let his bosses know that.
And finally - would someone buy this man a Media Center?

Speaking of Channel 9 going international, note that our blog service spaces.msn.com went live to Japan first, and is not in English yet. I think many people do not realize how much the web is shifting toward Asian langauges. English will very soon be a minority language (and already is in many contexts on the net).

About BloggerCon, we put together a program that’s about using blogs to do things, yes there’s a bit of introspection, I think that’s important. Might want to look at the schedule before you lump it in with all the other conferences you’ve been going to. This one is different.
Also, good luck with your project, I’m reserving judgement until I see how it actually works. I think Jason is a putz, I stopped linking to Engadget so often after he started boasting about how he has the biggest blog in the world. I still like Engadget, but that’s depsite Jason. Keep on truckin.
