Wanna know what’s wrong with our industry?

Take this story - for instance:

The San Francisco Chronicle has named Peter Negulescu as vice president of digital media. Prior to this, he was with with America Online as VP of product management/personalization.

SFGate.com is the nation’s fourth largest newspaper website, according to the company, with 5.3 million monthly unique visitors and over 65 million monthly page views.

Now I don’t have anything against this guy Peter - but I happen to know that AOL’s product management is one of the most abysmal, hopeless, fucked up group around and that only their personalization is worse. In fact I can safely say that less than 3% of AOL users even know they can personalzie anything - and you know why?

‘Cause there’s nothing to personalize.

So that makes sense that this guy Peter get promoted and a great new job - right?
