SMS speed record

SMS text speed record smashed
June 29, 2004

A SINGAPORE business student with nimble thumbs has broken the Guinness world record for the fastest SMS.

Kimberly Yeo, 23, clocked 43.24 seconds for typing 26 words.

The 160-character, 26-word text she typed read: “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human.”

The previous record was 67 seconds for the same 26 words, held by James Trusler of Britain.

More than 500 people took part in Sunday’s “SMS Shootout”, The Straits Times said.

Please may I have word on the technology powering the calculation of the time for speed-texting? I mean is there a physical timer/stop clock that time “On your marks, set,go” for picking up a phone already set to the Message menu and texting speedily?
